Nail glue and Super glue are completely different considering their elements, bond power, and strength. The purpose of nail glue is to glue your fake nails or other nail designs. On the other hand, super glue is for attaching two surfaces with a strong bond that lasts for a long time. You cannot swap them and expect them to work perfectly on an utterly unknown surface. The properties they are made of, the procedure of creating a bond, and their characteristics are different as well.
They both are adhesives that stick two or more things together by creating a bond. Let’s see what they can do and what not.
Super Glue
As a fast-hardening glue, super glue has been a common household material in our life. From fixing our glasses to fixing cracks on doors and furniture, super glue comes in handy a lot. Since it dries super fast, you have to attach things together before it hardens. Its adhesive is super strong and can last a while. Unless you scrap it or use other methods to break the bond, it will keep your things stuck together. One thing to be careful of is that if you don’t put the surface of your things properly, the super glue bond will break apart easily.
The element used to make super glue is cyanoacrylate and the proportion is 100%. These monomer particles stay as it is inside the bottle. When used on any surface, the air and pressure make these monomers polymerized. They make a chain like holding hands together. As a result, the monomers on both surfaces end up being a part of the same chain aka bond. That’s how an adhesive bond is made.
The polymerization happens super fast resulting in a strong bond. That’s why Super glue is unique. Because most other glues use already polymerized elements, unlike super glue. For example, Nail glue. Though it also has cyanoacrylate that is not 100% and has other elements including polymerized ones.
Among the waterproof glues, super glue is one. Even if you put the glued product underwater, the bond will not decay. However, if you just put things together and the bond is new, water can weaken it to a certain point. Super glue is waterproof but there are some acidic solutions and products that can break a superglue bond when applied in the right way.
Nail Glue
There are a lot of nail designs out there and still are being invented which increased their popularity in the fashion world. And when designing or using fake nails, nail glue is essential. Putting on fake nails, press-on, foils, acrylics, and more needs nail glue. Nail glue comes in different types depending on the elements it is used.
Cyanoacrylate, acrylic, latex, etc are some of the main ingredients of nail glue. Even though nail glue and super glue have the same element which is cyanoacrylate. However, super glue is made of solely 100% cyanoacrylate whereas cyanoacrylate in nail glue is just a part among others. This non-polymerized element is what makes sure the bond on nail glue is strong and hardens faster. While other pre-polymerized substances such as acrylic just make their bond beyond polymerization which makes the bond a bit more strong.
Depending on the main element, the bond nail glue creates varies. When the acrylic percentage is more, it creates a strong bond and is faster. The bond is similar to super glue but not as much as it is. It is a stiff bond and is not flexible. But when the latex percentage is more, the created bond is flexible and more sturdy. Latex and acrylic are the most common nail glue type. Since the cyanoacrylate is of less percentage, the durability period is less than 3 weeks. Because people change their nail design often, it is a perfect durable period.
Can I use super glue instead of nail glue?
You cannot use super glue instead of nail glue. There is a reason why nail glue was invented despite having super glue on the market already. Super glue is made of 100% cyanoacrylate that hardens as soon as applied. When designing nails, you will need a certain amount of time to pull the design off before the glue hardens.
While creating a bond super glue vaporizes the air on the surface and blocks it. Nails are on the living side that needs air and humidity. As we know, when deprives of air, humidity, or light, living things decays. When using super glue, your nails won’t get that, and as a result, the fungus will form. The cuticles around the nails will develop skin conditions.
Even nail glue can cause irritation on sensitive skin and to use super glue here is beyond common sense. Other people have succeeded that does not mean you have to do it. Always stay in the safe zone as we don’t what can happen. Be it for fake nails, or acrylic, don’t use super glue. You are the one who should keep your skin safe and beautiful. If you don’t have nail glue, there are other things you can use instead of nail glue.
What can I use instead of Nail glue?
The point of using nail glue is to secure the fake nails or attach new designs in different ways. If you cannot find nail glue around your area or just don’t have it, you can easily use alternatives.
Base Gel Nail polish
Base Gel Nail polish is a commonly found nail design material. You can find it anywhere in any shop, and market. The procedure to use it is just the same as nail glue.
Sticky Base coat
It is quite a choice as an alternative to nail glue. The procedure is the same and makes sure to apply the design before it hardens.
Acrylic liquid
Acrylic powder nail designs are some of the common and highly used designs. You can use an acrylic liquid as the base coat and then use the powder as you wish.
